Leandro, can you revert to an older kernel / older distribution and see
if the problem goes away? You might be able to use a Live CD, eg Ubuntu
9.10 or Ubuntu 9.04.
The reason I suggest this is that I am struggling with latency problems
in the latest Ubuntu 10.04 that I never had in 9.10 or previous, and
when I revert sure enough the problem goes away.
