Only problem was that I was trying to install a distro with older version of kernel i.e. Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 4. I tried 32-bit and 64-bit both, but in vain. Then I downloaded the latest version: Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.3. Its first CD was not properly burned that is why laptop was unable to find CD in the CD-Drive; when I burned it again, it worked fine and installation was smooth. When someone wants to intall linux, they should choose latest version of any flavour. Thanks again for your help.

In fact, I want to install Oracle Applications R12 that are certified with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux that is actually Red Hat version. That is why I had to intall enterprise version of Linux.
