I have a Satellite X205-9800 w/ openSUSE 11.0 installed (had 10.3
previously) and the sound card was not detected properly too.
What I did was to add the audio repository in order to have the latest
ALSA drivers installed and that solved the problem, now even the
subwoofer emits sound, hehe.
At konsole or gnome terminal type this (as root):

zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/audio/openSUSE_10.3/multimedia:audio.repo
zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/audio:/KMP/openSUSE_10.3_Update/multimedia:audio:KMP.repo

or you can use YaST2 to add the above repositories, after that just
update ALSA and the sound card "should" be working 'tho I don't know
for sure.
You can try and see if that solves the problem.
