[tlinux-users:02991] irda on satellite 1800-314 Sun, 26 Jan 2003
Hallo!

I intent to start using irda on Toshiba Satellite 1800-314.

From the http://newsletter.toshiba-tro.de/main/index.html i found out that
i have 'Super IO SMSC LPC47N227' irda thing. And i think i need to use
driver toshoboe for it to work (also, some say that newer version is
donauboe instead?).

I tried Linux kernel 2.4.20 on Debian, compiling in everything from Idra
support section. What could be included as modules i did as modules, other
i compiled into kernel. But inserting modules just like that

tossaja:~# modprobe toshoboe
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/net/irda/toshoboe.o: init_module: No
such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/net/irda/toshoboe.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/net/irda/toshoboe.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/net/irda/toshoboe.o: insmod toshoboe
failed

It looks more like that this driver doest fit for my notebook's irda
device than something is wrong with module parameters (like dma)?

Could someone confirm that this laptop has unsupported irda at the moment
or is there a way to make it work? Maybe i need to patch standard Linux
kernel somehow? Or what is the perspective of 1800-314 Super IO SMSC
LPC47N227 support?

Best Regards,

Try 'SMC IrCC (Experimental)'.

As a module, it is called smc-ircc.o, and you need to select
'Code maturity level options'-->
'Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers'

Cheers,
