Hi,
this is my first experience
with linux. I bought suse linux 8.0
personal and installed it on my toshiba
notebook satellite 1900 (windows xp
was preinstalled).The problem is that
the modem (Toshiba software modem AMR,
COM3) has not been recognized. Then
I tried a manual configuration with
yast2, but did not raelly know how to
do it and of course it failed. Does
anyone have experience with that and
could give me some advice how to solve
the problem? I would appreciate any
help!
Thanks.

At one
point, when I was running mandrake 7.2 on
my Toshiba Satellite, I
had a need for my dialup modem (before I
got DSL). At that point, I was
actually able to get it going by using the
LTModem drivers. I found what
looks to be a promising resource for you
here:
http://www.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de/heby/ltmodem/
Hopefully, this will
get you going. If you scroll down, you
will find
Linux-SuSE binary drivers.
Good luck!

There is
absolutely no support for the Lucent AMR
Win modems in Linux.
Nobody is even working on it. Get a PCMCIA
based real modem . |

Well...I'm
not sure if my Toshiba Satellite 2800-s201
has an AMR
winmodem...but I know it DOES have an Lucent
modem and I DID get it
working. |

| Lucky you.
For those of us stuck with an AMR modem,
there is no driver.
