XFree does not provide ATI
Radeon drivers |
Thu, 03 Jun 2004 |
I have Gentoo 2.6.6
kernel on a Tecra S1. As far as I can tell,
XFree does not
provide ATI Radeon drivers that support
3D rendering on 2.6.x kernels. The
documentation is sparse on this though.
Does anyone know if that is the case?

I have Gentoo with 2.6.5 kernel (mm-sources)
on a Tecra S1 too. Use the
Ati-Graphics from the Kernel and DRM. I
have app. 1500 fps with
glxgears. Perhaps you can change from XFree
to Xorg because the
development for XFree is dead. Search in
the Gentoo Forum for usual tips
about that problem.

Thanks, just installed XOrg... after a moment
of temporary insanity on my
part, I managed to get it to work. How do
I get the glx and dri to work?

Did
you (try to) add
Load "glx"
Load "dri"
in XF86Config? |

Embarrasing
but I should Google more often. The solution
was to run to install
XOrg and after setting up configuration
run (as root):
opengl-update xorg-x11
3D acceleration now works on Tecra S1.
