[tlinux-users:02975] XFree86 on Tecra 9000? 17 Jan 2003

I am using a Toshiba Tecra 9000 (PIII - 1,2 GHz, Savage Chipset) under
RedHat 8.0 (2.4.18)/Xfree86 4.2.

I have tried different modules for the XFree86 server (latest
driver vom http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html, original driver
from S3).

When using the default settings of the www.probo.com driver, I am
unable to get more than 60 Hz refresh rate on an external monitor
regardless of the setting of VerticalRefresh in XF86config.

I found out that setting "UseBIOS" to "false" enables me to
have the higher refresh rates on the external monitor.

But when using this settings I am unable to get VMWARE running.

Then I have found out that setting the option "NoAccell" makes
VMWARE running but then the menu entries in OpenOffice1.0 are not
visible. :-(

Is there any driver/configuration which allows to:

- have refresh rates > 60 Hz on an external monitor

- run win2k/winxp in vmware in window and fullscreen mode

- run openoffice with correct displaying of fonts/menus

Thank you very much in advance,

I think you want: http://www.probo.com/timr/xf42sav-27t.tgz

This is Beta and was only posted on Tim's news server on 17th
Jan. But it specifically addresses the 60Hz refresh rate.

Thank you very much. This "test" driver fixed my problems.
Now I am able to run XFree86 with 75 Hz when the external
monitor is attached. Also I am able to run WinXP within VMWARE
in fullscreen mode.
