Slackware Linux 13.0 on Satellite M40-307

(Updated information - 3 from a user)

About 4 years ago, I sent an installation report of Linux Debian
on a Toshiba Satellite M40-307 (model: PSM44E-00U00EFR).

I recently installed Slackware Linux 13.0 on this computer with
kernel version 2.6.29. The wireless is fully supported by this
version of the Linux kernel with the module ath5k.

There are some remaining problems with ACPI support.
First, the suspend to mem (Freeze/Standby) does not work well:
the computer crashes when waking up.
Second, the Fn+Fx (x=1 to 12) keys don't generate ACPI events.
Some of them are acting as under Windows (Fn+F5,Fn+F10,Fn+F11)
others have no effect (Fn+F1 to Fn+F4, Fn+F6 to Fn+F9) and simply
generate X keypress events for F1...F9 in xev. The Fn+F12 seems to be
totally inactive (no ACPI event, no X keypress, no visible modification
of the behavior of the computer).
Third, the screen brightness cannot be adjusted under Linux.
The Omnibook module, also it seems to work for some Toshiba Satellite
M40 computers (M40-JM8 and M40-281) does not work with the M40-307.
The former two models seem to be PSM40 and PSM42 while to M40-307 is a
PSM44. That may indicate a different firmware, incompatible between
these different submodels.

I am attaching a 7 pages report as PDF file. I am also joining
an HTML summary.

With best regards,
